‘Networking’

My 2025 GSA degree show, exploring the relationships formed between species, and how we as humans fit into such networks.

Alasdair Stephen

I am a multi-media artist from Scotland, who primarily works in acrylic and oil paints, as well as clay sculpture. My work usually concentrates around my affinity and connection with the natural world. Exploring both my physical connections with the wild spaces around me, as well as wider themes around ecology, and humanities relationship with nature. I have a particular likeness for fine detail in my painting process. Cataloging and investigating the depths of the natural objects that I find. Exploring a natural web of species and forms. Reaching for the intimate details and colours of each specimen, and how they interact with one another.  Where they fit into the wider web, and in turn contemplating my own place within the web. I also have a long time passion for conceptual design. Observing and dissecting the natural subjects of my paintings in order to compose my own mythologies. Creating characters to tell stories on my behalf.
